QOOB has helped another jem of the short format come to life: straight out of Down-Under, explosive stuntman-editor-producer-writer-actor-director Nash Edgerton delivers his latest effort, “Spider”, a 9-minute action-thriller that gives an all-new meaning to old Peugeots, stunning blondes and love-jokes. The movie, written by Nash and David Michod and soundtracked for the occasion by Australian singer-songwriter Ben Lee, was shot on location in Sydney and features in the cast Nash himself (as Jack) and rising star of the Australian film scene Mirrah Foulkes (as Jill). It’s no surprise that it’s been awarded World Movies Channel Audience Award at the Sydney Film Festival 2007. Just remember: it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye.

abstracted, repetitive animation moves rhythmically to a violent score in this computer animated critique of modern society. ranks of faceless workers hammer the unyielding earth as a mechanized apocalypse seems to strike. although theros means harvesting in ancient greek, there is nothing organic here.

Synopsis

Facing the contamination of their cities and dwellings on shore by a deadly virus, the remainder of humankind flees across the oceans towards uninhabited parts of the globe.

Occupying huge oil tankers, they search for a land free from plague.

Their leader, a man obsessed with the desire to rescue the remaining population, gathers healthy humans within the decks of the ships.

Unfortunately, having been infected by the fatal virus, he is oblivious to its true nature.

They depart on a long, desperate journey into the unknown.

Their aim, an unknown land… a new earth.
